Turmeric

Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) is considered one of the healthiest plants and belongs to the family of ginger. More than five thousand scientific studies and researches have been conducted on the medicinal properties of turmeric. In Europe, it has been used since the beginning of the 20th century, although for hundreds of years it was known as a medicinal herb in India and it is used in Ayurveda (Indian folk medicine). It was also mentioned by Marco Polo. The main active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, which is in India called Holy powder. Turmeric gets a yellow color from curcumin. Curcumin is one of the main ingredients of curry, which also gets a distinctive color from it. Turmeric is rich in iron, manganese, dietary fibers, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, copper, selenium, vitamins C, B1, B2, B3, B6, C and E. The recommended daily dose of turmeric is up to 10 grams and it should be consumed every day or at least three times a week. Since turmeric has the quality of dilution of the blood, should not be consumed along with medication to thin the blood.

Turmeric achieves the best effect in combination with black pepper. We should keep it in a glass bottle in a dry, dark place. It should be added to the dishes at the end of preparation in order to preserve as many nutritional properties. It is used in the preparation of sweet and savory dishes, in mixtures for cakes, soups, salads, as a condiment or in potions.

The most famous drink made from turmeric is a Golden Milk. For its preparation is necessary to make a paste of turmeric – mix the following ingredients:  ¼ cup of turmeric powder, ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper, ½ cup of distilled or filtered water. Mix all the ingredients on medium heat until you get a thick paste. We keep it in a jar in the refrigerator. After we made a paste of turmeric, the next step is to prepare the drink. We need the following ingredients: 1 cup of milk (almond, coconut, hemp or organic cow’s milk), 1 teaspoon of coconut milk, ¼ teaspoon of paste of turmeric, honey, if desired. All ingredients, except the honey, mix in a bowl and cook, stirring constantly over medium heat, careful not to boil. We can add honey as desired. We drink it before bedtime. The Golden Honey is known as one of the best natural antibiotics. It is used for the first signs of cold. For the preparation we need: 100 grams of honey, 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder. We mix them and put them in a jar. It should be consumed for three days, according to the following schedule: the first day – half teaspoon every half hour, the second day – half a teaspoon every two hours, the third day – half a spoon three times a day.
